Overview
Volunteer service is central to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) mission of helping veterans enjoy higher-quality, more fulfilling lives. Whether serving at VA medical centers or helping veterans in their hometowns, DAV volunteers play a meaningful role in improving outcomes for those who served.
Scholarship summary
This college scholarship is available to volunteers who are age 21 or younger and who have completed at least 100 volunteer hours credited through DAV or the DAV Auxiliary. Applicants must submit an essay describing what volunteering for veterans means to them. Nominations are welcome from anyone, including the student/applicant.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be age 21 or younger and have a minimum of 100 volunteer hours recorded through DAV or DAV Auxiliary.
- Award funds may be used at any accredited institution of higher education, including universities, colleges, community colleges, and vocational or technical schools.
- The full scholarship amount must be used either before the recipient reaches their 25th birthday or within six years of the award date, whichever deadline is later.
- Nominations may be submitted by the applicant themself, Voluntary Service Program Managers at VA medical centers, members of DAV departments or chapters, or friends and family.
Earning and documenting hours
Volunteering hours may be earned at VA medical centers and/or through the Local Veterans Assistance Program (LVAP). All volunteer time must be officially credited to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to qualify.
